Landscape character in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire is bounded by three National Landscapes — the Chilterns to the east, the North Wessex Downs to the south, and the Cotswolds to the north-west. Between them, the Vale of White Horse, the Thames Valley, and the historic city of Oxford itself give the county a varied landscape character ranging from chalk downland and ancient oolitic limestone to lowland river meadow. Many of the most sensitive areas carry national designations, and the city of Oxford has its own particular townscape constraints around the historic core.

The relevant planning authorities include Cherwell District Council, Vale of White Horse District Council, South Oxfordshire District Council, West Oxfordshire District Council, and Oxford City Council. We are familiar with their Local Plan landscape policies, the Cotswolds and Chilterns management plans, and the heritage and landscape sensitivity studies that apply across the county.
